Now that I have been living in the Facebook world & have been conditioned to update my status, I figured out how to update both sites at once. So if you are on facebook or twitter or just want to be nosy come visit & link up! I look forward to more active stalking soon.

~M

p.s.
The twitter feed looks like this
<lj-embed id="12" />

MI-5 & Taxes

Submitted to us by Ginny

1. I got my tax refund last week. Have you filed yet?
Will you get a refund? What are your plans for the
money? Save? Spend? Something you've been wanting
and can now get with the "extra money?

I filed & received my return early Feb. I bought a new mattress and paid off the last of some debt I had (outside my home & car that is). I even had a little left over for some much needed house supplies too. I learned just after filing that I could take advantage of a 1st time home buyers interest free tax loan. $7500 - I have to pay back at $500 a year for 12 yrs. Not hard considering I usually get a few K returned each year. Considering I knew I needed a new roof on this house when I bought it a few months ago... That will come in quite handy & a much better deal than the banks wanted to give me. Interest free w/ no application fees, I like that. Only now I have to do an amended return & well that just bites!!!

2. Do you do your own taxes or have someone else do them?

I use Turbo Tax - Its been the quickest, most convenient & easiest option for me over the years.

3. Have you ever been audited? What was it like?
No, but I have owed the IRS in the past. They got their money & I learned why it sucks to be self employed!

4. Did anyone else hear that Seniors will be getting checks
for $250? I heard it once and then nothing more about it.
Seems only fair since they don't benefit from a reduction in
payroll taxes. Your thoughts?

I hadn't heard

5. Do you wait until April 15 to file if you have to send
a check? Or do you just want to get it over with?

I file within 24 hrs of getting my w2's - The one year i had to pay them, I had been out of work due to an auto accident & finances were seriously stressed. It took almost 3 years to pay off what should have only taken a few months had I still been doing the work I was when I was self employed.

Yesterday he gave me the recipe and because of its awesomeness I wanted to share it with you. They have become so popular that they acquired a new name appropriately titled as

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE

Fish Dredge:
2 Cups White Flour
2 Tbls Cumin
1 Tbls Paprika
2 Tbls Salt
1 Tbls Chili Powder

Cabbage Salsa:
1/2 Head Cabbage - shredded
1 Cup Tomatoes - 1/4" dice
1 Cup Onion - 1/4" dice
1/2 Cup Cilantro - minced
1/2 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 Cup Rice Wine Vinegar
1/4 Cup Olive oil
2 Tbls Salt

Tarter Sauce:
2 Cups Mayo
1/4 Cup Hot Sauce (cholula)
1/4 Cup Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 Cup Dill Relish
1/4 Cup Cilantro - minced
1 Tbls Salt

Other Needs:
Haddock
6 in. Flour Tortillas
Canola Oil
Shredded Cheddar

Cut Haddock into 1/2" wide by 2" strips. Heat enough canola oil (aprox 3 cups) in a high sided sauce pot on med/high. Thoroughly coat fish in dredge. Fry fish until just cooked through and set aside.
In a large preheated (med/high heat) skillet place a 1/2 tsp of oil then a flour tortilla and a little shredded cheddar on top of the tortilla. Place a few pieces of fish on the tortilla on one side and heat until the tortilla is nicely browned and the cheese is melted. Remove from heat and put a few Tbls of Cabbage Salsa and 1Tbls of Tarter Sauce. Fold in half and consume.

Now go make this for some folks you love right now,
Everyone will be happy you did.

Mi5 - Things BR Style

Bill claims he couldn't come up with anything good this week. So he named five places.
With the request that we name five things we keep in those places, and tell something
interesting about one of those five things. If we don't have one of the
places, we can make something up.

Ok, here we go.

Name five things you keep in your:

1) Glove box
A packet that includes my insurance & registration
an old roommate of mine made me the mini folder out of a manila envelope and brown tape and he put my license plate number on it so I would have everything I needed should I ever get pulled over or in an accident. I've had a few cars since then and several different plate numbers but I always hung on to that envelope for my stuff.
A box of Slim Jims
you never know when you will be stranded & need protein. I actually started this habit because when I 1st moved to Maine a friend of mine suggested that in the winter I keep an emergency kit that included a snack and a blanket in the event I got stranded some place and had to wait for help. Hopefully I will never need to be grateful for the advice but I keep myself prepared all the same
An adapter that turns your cig lighter into a standard outlet plug like this
I haven't actually needed to use it in over a year but the day I take it out the need will present itself.
Pens
I have pens everywhere, my car is no exception
Caffeine gum or mints
I often need a pick up & love things with caffeine in them so I try to keep plenty on hand in my car. Jolt Gum is my favorite

2) Medicine cabinet
Zantac
I get heartburn or acid reflux more times than I care too, this stuff works AWESOME
Allergy meds
Very handy in the spring
Vitamins
I wish I took these regularly, I just can't seem to get in the habit
Toothbrush/Floss
I have 3 or more kinds of floss in there and only 1 toothbrush - weirdness </i>
Boudreaux's Butt Paste
I bought this to include with a baby shower gift and for some reason it never made it and I have had it in my cabinet ever since - at this point I can't even recall who it was for anymore

3) Refrigerator
Decaying fruit
I buy it with the intention of eating it but by the time I get around to it, its often gone bad. What is my deal???
Too many condiments
I don't know where they come from or how I end up with so many but I swear they must be breeding in there
Rice Milk
I can handle lactose in small quantities but it can't handle me. So instead of cow milk I drink RICE DREAM's Rice Milk. I love it - actually I am so use to it that whole milk tastes gross - so thick and fatty blech!
Leftovers that should have been tossed long ago
Again something I swear I am going to eat... or save for the dog but somehow never makes it back out of the fridge and I end up eventually having to toss it.
multiple half drunk bottles of random liquids
I don't drink much... EVER. I am also a starter... not so much a finisher. So as a result, there are multiple bottles of half drunk liquids in my fridge. Right now for example... V8 Juice, Ginger ale, Orange Juice, Coffee, Green Tea & Wine. Many have been in there unfinished for weeks.

4) Wallet/purse
I don't carry either however I do have a messenger bag that I grab from time to time when I have bigger items I wish to lug around. That always has....
Pens
Note pad
current book I am reading
granola bar
Mail

5) Desk drawer
Pens
Blank Dvd's/Cd's
Instruction manuals for everything I have owned in the last 10 years
even if the item is long gone
Note pads
rechargeable batteries
